The pet's medicine chest

The pet's medicine chest

The dog’s own medicines chest will be helpful to him and to you. Put in it the things he needs or may need no family remedies, no human medications, just the pet’s very own remedies that can be found in a jiffy when required.

Things such as sterile cotton and guaze dressings and bandagers, first-aid type, rectal thermometer, three-percent solution of hydrogen peroxide to cleanse wounds, antiseptic for minor cuts, mild laxative, antidiarrhea tablets or liquid germicidal soap, first-aid cream or antiseptic/antibacterial skin ointment ( for burns and abrasions ), Vaseline, aspirin ( to help reduce fever and pain), emetic to induce vomiting in case of poisoning, activated – charcoal tablets to absorb poisons and milk of magnesia to help neutralize them, flea spray or powder, and a proper cough mixture. These are some of the things you may need from time to time. You will think of others. You veterinarian can help. Ask him what sedative is best, when to use it and the dosage. Then in case of overexcitement or accidents, you will be prepared to give first aid. This may seem like a lot of unnecessary work, but the day may come when it pays off handsomely. Always remember : dogs cannot take some drugs that are helpful to people.
