General Care and Nursing - Principles of training

Given proper training, a pet dog can attain great heights in intelligence and functional actions. Dogs are trained to lead blind man and become a great help and assistance to them. As for learning languages, there are grown-up dogs who can almost understand anything or everything that the master utters before them. Over and above these, the master can use their sensitivity and their sixth-sense knowledge to the master’s own advantage. It is needless to say that with relevant training, the quality and efficiency of a dog may be much upgraded.

Secondly, as owner you have to spend some time everyday to see that the puppy has enough or the intelligence. At first, he will be jumping up and down, running about the house or the flat, and will indulge in pranks like that take hold of the puppy by the collar and make him sit, then let him go, but shout out “no, sit” if he shifts from the sitting position. At first, the puppy will be restless and will not obey the command but make him obey you first of all.

Begin to hold him first before you, and tell him to go at a distance. For this put some object like an empty cigarette case, the floor about seven-eight feet away. Then tell your dog to go and pick it up. He may not perform the actions of both going to it and picking it up, but you may start and exercise of making him go to the object. Hold him by the collar and then give the order “ it should a little big” by pointing at the object in front. Do not release him at once, but hold him with the left hand and point the right hand directly at the object repeating the command “go.

At first, he may run back to you or may jump up on your furniture, or he may hid himself under the bed, sofa, table, stool etc., you need not be told that you should not lose your temper or your patience. If the puppy does not run to your object but lies off somewhere then bring him back and start the process all over again. Take him to the object on the floor and pet him smell; object, let him recognize the thing on the floor. In due course, he will be able to pick up your command and will need your bidding. Tell him at the end of the running to sit at a particular place, and point out the place clearly to him by show of hand and the forefinger. Normally, whenever you throw the object the dog will start running towards the object the dog will start running towards that object. He may hold it in his mouth or he may not. Secondly, it may not be possible that the dog will run back to you will the object. So, even in this simple exercise , there are arts or segments. You throw the object at a little distance. The dog runs at the object , the dog sniffs the object, he may or may not pick it up, after picking up, the dog may return to the master, or he may run further away.

Therefore, it is necessary to have the exercise over and again. Talk to the dog all the time. You will be surprised how these animals can pick up human words and signs and that too in any language and any mode of gesture. Tell your dog, like this, “Go pick up, come back, come here, no, don’t go away, come back, come here, come here with the ball, and so on”. Keep talking to your doing in this way. Talk fluently, give order as if you are giving them to another human. Only one word ”No” has to be specially stressed. If you keep a pet in your house, you have also to share some responsibilities in respect of this pet. If you do not properly train your dog, it might affect him little when he is young. But as he keeps on growing, he requires adequate training. Love and care is okay but remember your dog is an animal. He may come licking at your feet, or may be cosy with you or coddle up at you, but he is susceptible to mischief. He will steal, he might damage new things, new magazines, he might bark at odd hours or when you are talking on the phone, and so on. Do not feel betrayed at these times. Try to correct your dog as you would correct your baby. Love him by all means, if you have to, but do not condenscend when he is in the wrong.

Deal with him firmly. Forsake your love for the time-being / Chastise him, make him understand that he has done a wrong. Of you can muster enough of boldness, you will find your own best way of dealing with your dog. Create anticipation of fear in him but do not push him to the corner do not throw him over the barrier of reason so that he becomes desperate and turns on you leaving reason to the wind. If you wish to have a pet, it is better that you learn as much as possible about pet-keeping. The more you know about your responsibility, the better mannered you can make of your pet. Also, make a distinction between circus training and home domestication. The circus trainer of animals, particularly of the big game animals, has to be an iron-man. He may get hurt sometimes but that is his trade with its good and bad sides. The circus – trainer will only look for effects and will pressurize the animal ( within limits ) either through whipping or denial of food etc., to drive the animal to attain perfection in its performance. In the domestic set-up, the training has to be imparted differently. You wish to make your dog behave properly. Therefore, he should not pick up bad habits and shouts get thoroughly adjusted to the household.
