Outdoor exercise

Outdoor exercise, especially walking, is extremely beneficial to puppies. It keeps them in shape both physically and mentally. An exhilarating jaunt at least once a day is more healthful to both dog and owner than any other form of exercise. Walking is a good way to acquaint a puppy with the world outside his home. He experiences new sights, noise, and scents. He has an opportunity to meet other people and animals while under your supervision, and all natural curiosity. When regular walks are initiated during puppy hood, an adult dog will eagerly await his daily outing.
Controlling your dog is mandatory during walking, but his play period should be pure enjoyment. Puppies love to chase balls, to retrieve sticks, and to play other outdoor games. These are excellent forms of exercise, provided you determine that sticks will not splinter and that balls will not lodge in the puppy’s throat. “Safety” is a guideline for outdoor exercise. Nothing that jeopardizes your dog’s life can be considered beneficial exercise. This means that you don’t let him walk of leash on busy streets and that his play periods should take place in an enclosed yard.
